JOE'S BLACK BEAR HUNT - TANANA RIVER ALASKA 2007

BEAR NUMBER ONE

The first Bear I got was on 12 May 2007 at 7:30 PM at our bait stand along the Tanana River.  I used my new Smith & Wesson's .460 S&W Magnum X-frame pistol (It's called the Model 460XVR, and it is, the state-of-the-art long-range big-game wheel gun. The "XVR," incidentally, is an acronym for Extreme Velocity Revolver) It was loaded with my own hand loaded 335 grain Cast Performance Bullets; one shot is all it took. The Bear squared out at 6 feet 4 inches. a very Big Black Bear for Interior Alaska.  I shot him right underneath Tommy's tree stand after it came up my tree to within a couple feet of me.  See a short video of the one-shot .460XVR HERE

BEAR NUMBER TWO

The Second Bear I got off the same stand was on 19 May 2007 at 10:30 PM near the Tanana River; again I used my Smith & Wesson .460 XVR pistol loaded with same hand loaded 335 grain Cast Performance bullets; again one shot did it.  This guy squared just a little under 7 feet and his skull was just under 18 inches.  Another Very Large Interior Alaska Black Bear.

The pictures below were all taken from my Trail Camera between May13 2007 and May 19 2007.  At one point I had up to three Bears in there at the same time.  Trail camera's can provide some really cool pictures of the Bears in there eating and playing.
