WHITTIER ALASKA 29 JULY 2009

On Wednesday 29 July 2009, we headed to Whittier for yet another Halibut trip.  This time I had Greg Nelson, plus Larry Duff and Dave (LT V.) from work with me. We battled some tough weather on this day, the wind was blowing about 20 knots out of the North.  It was churned up pretty good out there.  It was supposed to lay down around noon, so we fished a few sheltered back-up spots early in the morning, then headed out to Smith Island just after lunch.  I got on top of a few fish, but it was real rough out there, I needed to move about 500 yards or so, but I knew in that chop, if I pulled anchor, the day would be over out there.  We stayed in the one spot for a few hours and picked up a few Halibut, and a huge skate.  Greg caught a nice Ling Cod (the first legal size Ling my boat has ever brought in) it was about 40 inches long.  We had a good day, I just wish we could of got on some better fish !
